Looking after your skin through menopause

Our skin changes as we do, and menopause is one of the times it changes most. As our oestrogen dips, skin can start to feel drier, thinner and a little less bouncy than it used to — and it can turn more sensitive, or flare up in ways it never did before. If that's you right now, please know it's completely normal, and there's a lot we can do to help your skin feel comfortable and cared for again.

What's actually happening

The main thing is a loss of collagen and natural oils. Collagen is what keeps skin firm and plump, and we make less of it through menopause, which is why fine lines and a little sagging can appear. At the same time skin holds onto less moisture, so it feels drier and tighter. The goal, really, is simple: put back what your skin is missing — moisture, nourishment and gentleness.

A kind routine

Cleanse gently. This isn't the time for anything stripping — a nourishing oil cleanser lifts the day away without leaving skin tight. Then feed your skin: press in a few drops of my Multivitamin Facial Serum, which is rich in rosehip and vitamins A, C and E to support firmness and glow.

Then moisturise well — a lighter cream through the day, and something richer at night when your skin does its repairing. Look for hydrating ingredients like hyaluronic acid, which helps your skin hold onto water and look plumper. You'll find gentle, nourishing options among my facial care.

And be kind to yourself

Menopause asks a lot of us, and your skin is only one part of it. Drink plenty of water, be gentle with yourself, and give any new routine a few weeks to settle in — skin loves consistency more than it loves quick fixes.

And if you're ever not sure what your skin needs, just message me at steph@stephkilkenny.com. I'd love to help you find something that suits you. 🤍
